a dragstrip would be alot of fun on long island - who wants to go to the hamptons anyway? the prices are too high and everyone is stuck up. I remember seeing Steve Levy on TV standing next to Spitzer. the guy that got busted for hookers. Hey Steve, I dont care what you do with hookers - but a drag strip on Long Island might be key to get the economy going again.

Don't we all need jobs? Would a track not create more opportunities for hard working individuals who need some income?

Will a track not bring street racing related deaths and injuries down? It wont ever stop street racing completely, but I'm positive that an outlet for horsepower junkies will prove itself worthy.

Lastly- are there no investors willing to put up the money for this project? I'm sure there are parcels of land all over Long Island, not just Calverton or Yaphank. The truth is, "if you build it, they will come" - we need an honest operation here.

My name is Chris Battestin. As of today, 11/11/09, I am joining the fight. Someone needs to teach Levy a lesson NOW!!!!!!! See, the fire in my belly is like a nitrous explosion. When I lived in Queens, my grandparents would spoil me and take me to Westhampton. They understood what a sacred place it was. I would get a WICKED buzz off of the tire smoke. When we accomplish our goal, I will go to this track every chance I get, and I will beg the staff to let me work there. I will work there for the rest of my life. i'm a bit of a shutterbug, but my digital camera will be ready-I'll probably get 300 photos a day at our new sacred place. In fact, we should call it Sacred Ground Raceway. Even if they hire me to just spray water for the burnouts, I will be more than honored-I want to help in the process however I can. I greatly miss how fun Westhampton was. I will tell everyone I know about this site. It's awesome that you guys are doing this. I am proud to be part of this. I do not have a car but if I did I would race it every time I come. If the Tree blew out I would be glad to do an old-school flagman start. I'm the emotional one in the family, so on opening day I will be crying happy tears all day-yes, I know I'm overly sensitive. Last Saturday night I was doing karaoke, and sang Jan and Dean's "Drag City," and at the end I said, "If drag racing is what you love and know, Steve Levy must go!!!!!!!!" Together we can teach that piece of crap a lesson. I support this because I've always cared deeply about cars and their needs. I am by no means a mechanic, but this track will give me the opportunity to do something for them. I'm not that great with tools. Heck, I could pay for the track if there was an all-car-trivia version of "Jeopardy!"-I'd win about 500 billion dollars at that and be able to pay to start Sunday bus service so I could actually get to the track. There is a guy in my town with a drag-radial mid '60's Nova, and once my photo of it was developed, I drew tears coming from its headlights-it's sad that there's no track out here anymore-Levy made that Nova cry. ( my late grandfather had a Nova-a 4-door '71, and if he had sold it to me I would have so kept the six-gun and do so many tweaks to it. he never understood what I saw in it. Eventually the driver's floorpan rusted through and everyone in the family except me was ragging on him that he would have to stop it with his feet like the Flintstone's car. I NEVER make fun of cars.) In closing, we need to do whatever it takes to get this done. Your Brother, "The Highway Chevalier."

long island is in desperate need of a track . i remember going to freeport islip and bridgehampton back in day to watch my father race.a sugesstion for a track in my opinion would be in suffolk county the old suffolk downs horserace track or thers been rumors for years that auqaduct is for sale why not turn that into a drag strip speedway . hell longisland has too many horse tracks .if there was a speedway on long island other than riverhead i would be there for every event bring back the speedways hell it will keep it off the street and it will be safe and it is a great family event for longislanders to do.plus it will make longisland a place worth going to once again and create fun for a whole new generation

i pass by grumen every single day for work and they are doing nothing with this place so much land and so much opportunity the airport alone has 2192 acres plus more(it's in calverton)they built a motocross track there so why not a drag strip(to much noise for the old people? too much traffic?)till then you build a a track or i will continue on the streets.
theres too many people dying these days
i have grown to hate the island its filled with nazis where you can't have any fun
people use to go to bald hill then to 101 and race but to much stuff has been happening recently build a track and instead of people dying in car accidents and wont have the fear of getting chased by the cops we can go there and meet and do it legally
we had 4 tracks at one time what the hell happened now we dont have one
